Using Data Visualizer Add-in for Excel with Visio visual

Specifically, what we're trying to do is use the Data Visualizer to create an org chart straight out of an Excel file as a data source, then load it using the Visio visual in PBI:

https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/office/create-an-org-chart-based-on-excel-data-by-using-visio-fo...

However, I'm getting this error when I'm trying to add the Data Visualizer add-in to Excel (Desktop or Web version):

Your administrator has not installed Web Add-ins for your organization.

I've contacted our IT department and was told to request for a Visio license, but before I do that, I would like first to confirm from others who have used this in a similar capacity? Do I need a Visio license to do this or just additional access to enable add-ins in Excel (and specifically the Data Visualizer)?

Hi @olimilo ,

Is there a free version of Visio for the web?

Yes, you can use Visio for the web without a license to view basic Visio files. Sign in to your Microsoft 365 account, upload the Visio file to OneDrive, and then select the file there to open it. The file opens in your browser in Visio for the web, giving you the ability to see the file in read-only view.

With Visio Viewer, you can also open, view, and print Visio drawings created in the Visio desktop app. However, you cannot create, edit, or save a new Visio drawing with Visio Viewer. For more information, see Use Visio Viewer to view or print Visio drawings (microsoft.com)

Hi @olimilo ,

Editing a Visio Visual in Power BI requires a Visio Plan 1 or Visio Plan 2 license. You can visit our plan comparison to decide which option is best for you.

If you’re unsure which plan is right for you, try them for free for 30 days (Plan 1 trialPlan 2 trial). These trials are separate from the Visio Visual trial, and you can register for both without affecting your eligibility for the other.

  • Visio Visual is not supported in Power BI Report Server.
  • Data graphics applied to Visio diagrams from Visio desktop are removed so that Power BI can apply it's own graphics.
  • .....

More details: Add Visio Visuals to Power BI reports (microsoft.com)

Hi @Anonymous

Does either Visio Plan include the ability to use Visio add-ins in Office? Would like to know before we commit to getting a license, thanks!
