Users not showing on usage metrics when accessing Power BI report via Edge

We have a report published that's accessed by a few dozen users, and we can see most of them. But recently we discovered there is at least one person, maybe more, that the usage metrics don't pick up when they're using Microsoft Edge.

When we noticed we were missing this person we spent one day navigating the report on Teams with them viewing it via Edge, and the next day there was still no sign of their activity on the usage report. Later they switched to Chrome, and the next day their activity was visible.

We have seen Edge act strangely with some of our other platforms, and it's clear that it is the cause for this issue. It makes me wonder how many of our other stakeholders we're missing because they're on the wrong browser.

Is this a known issue and is there a way to resolve it?

Hi,

I would suggest to check if yourself or other users are logged for this report when using Edge. If none of you are logged in the usage metric while using Edge. I would suggest looking at the report filters of the usage metric report and try to see if you are filtering out some browser out in the report.

Hey @SevsBo ,

It seems that you’ve encountered an issue where user activity in Power BI is not appearing in the usage metrics when using Microsoft Edge. This could be related to the way Edge handles session data, caching, or tracking in some scenarios. Few things you could check or try:

  1. Browser Cache & Cookies: Sometimes, the browser cache or cookies can interfere with the way tracking data is collected. Ask your users to clear their browser cache and cookies to see if that resolves the issue.

  2. Edge Compatibility: Ensure that Microsoft Edge is updated to the latest version. Sometimes, older versions may have compatibility issues with web-based tools like Power BI.

  3. Tracking Settings in Power BI: Double-check the settings for Power BI’s usage metrics and make sure that no settings are preventing tracking for Edge users. Sometimes, specific configurations or settings in the Power BI service might be limiting data collection.

  4. Try Incognito/Private Mode: Have your users try accessing the report in Edge’s InPrivate mode (similar to Chrome’s Incognito) to see if the issue persists. This can help identify if a setting or extension is affecting the browser's behavior.

  5. Extensions or Privacy Settings: Some extensions or privacy settings in Microsoft Edge could be blocking trackers or cookies, causing the issue. Ensure that no ad-blockers or privacy extensions are interfering with Power BI’s functionality.

  6. Test Other Browsers: As you did with Chrome, testing with other browsers (such as Firefox or Safari) could also provide more insights into whether the issue is specific to Edge.
