I have a Composite Model which is connected in "Direct Query for AS" mode with 2 Semantic Models (which contains "normal" imported tables).
When sharing the report connected with this model, the users can open the report but every visual in the report shows an error:
A connection could not be made to the data source with the Name of '{"protocol":"analysis-services","address":{"server":"powerbi://api.powerbi.com/v1.0/myorg/TEST%20Composite%20Model","database":"LEVEL 1 - Importmodell A"},"authentication":null,"query":null}'.
It is all the same when using the "Share" function, the "App" function or the "Viewer" role on the workspace (with or without the Build permission) in order to share the report.
The connection with the underlying semantic models works for users with the "Contributor" role on the workspace or higher, therefore the connection to the semantic models works.
Thank you for your help!
Solved! Go to Solution.
The problem could be solved now. It seems that the problem with the sharing was caused due to the fact, that all Measures (in all involved Semantic Models) were located in a Calculated Table called "[ Measures]". As soon as I created the first measure in an "normal" import table, the sharing started working. This was true even after I moved the new measure to the "[ Measures]" table.
Best Regards
Robert
Thank you! But all 3 Semantic Models (2 Import + 1 Composite) are on the same workspace and also part of the same App ... so my users have access to all 3 Models. The 2 Imported Models can be accessed without problems, the visuals in the report of the 1 Composite Model show all the error mentioned above ...
Any RLS or OLS involved?
No, RLS and OLS are not activated yet (this would be the next step).
Thanks for your help in advance!

Hi @roloc03, I've got this exact issue. I also have all the measures in a calulated measures table, but I'm not the owner of it so can't easily change it. Before I start asking for changes do you know why this solution works? I'm stuggling to see the connection between measures table and error. Many thanks!
Thank you, this link was very useful and I entered a new support ticket. As soon as we have found a solution I will come back here and post it.
Background information: I already tried to open a support ticket before in the Power BI Admin Portal (since I have the tenant admin role), but this didn`t work due to a missing support contract (although we have Pro and PPU licenses). I think this could be a bug in the Power BI Admin Portal ...
Hi Sai Teja,
thank you for your input ... but problems with the refresh is something different, this has nothing to do with my problem sharing the report.
Thank you, Robert
Hi @roloc03 ,
I hope you have already opened your ticket with Microsoft.
As per my understanding they should have access to all your report datasources (semantic models) atleast they should have read. Please check if you pulling data from semantic model to your existing report source semantic model then I think they should have access to that one.
Thanks,
Sai Teja
Your users must "install" all the apps of the participating semantic models. (ie click on each app link once)
