Sharing gateway / data source with external user

HI,

I'm trying to share a gateway and/or a data source with an external user. This user has been created as a Guest User in AAD with his own email address, I was able to select him when sharing a gateway / data source,  but nothing is displayed when selecting "manage gateways" using his account. Did I miss something ?

BR,

David

Hi @dvasseur,

What you want is not supported currently. In manage gateway, you could only see the gateway that configured for your tenant, whose region displayed in gateway app is the same with your tenant region. For the gateway and data source shared by other organizational users, you won’t see them in the Manage gateways.

For such kind of needs, you could submit the idea in Power BI Ideas. It’s a place where the product group collects suggestions from users to improve the product. Thanks in advance!

Hi,

Here, they have said "External Azure AD B2B guests can view apps, dashboards, reports, and export data. They can't access workspaces or publish their own content. To remove these restrictions, you can use the Allow external guest users to edit and manage content in the organization feature."

If we enable this feature, can we share our data sources with guest users? If so, what privileges are needed when creating the "security group"?  (I have enabled this feature, but I couldn't see the shared data sources when I logged in as the guest user. Seems, what I'm trying is not possible, or need to change the security group privileges)

Hi ibarrau,

Actually, it's the other way around, I have installed the gateway on my organisation and would like to share it with a guest user (either the gateway itself or just a data source). This scenario is not listed on your link, so do you know if it's working (I cannot really test this right now :() ?

Hi dvasseur. I'm sorry but you can't do that. It's not allowed

  • Guest users can't install a Power BI Gateway and connect it to your organization

You can read more about the considerations and limitations of sharing B2B (external users) in here: https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/power-bi/enterprise/service-admin-azure-ad-b2b#considerations-and-l...

I hope that helps,
