Re: Option to rename Fabric capacity in the Fabric admin portal
Hopefully this is still being considered, because our primary Office admin provisioned the Fabric capacity but it was given a name that doesn't quite align with naming that is visually helpful for the Power BI Administration. There is a pencil icon in the Admin portal that seems like you can change the display name but you cannot. If the capacity has a guid, why does the display name need locked? You couldn't use the display name in any API, there seems to be no good reason to have a locked.Re: Migrating from embedded ODBC drivers to ADBC in Power BI and Fabric
Can someone clarify - is this a tenant setting related to Gateway and Cloud connection only? Or both with Power BI Desktop development and Power BI Service? I'm just asking because the Learn article for Snowflake connectivity is still referencing the Limitations with the 2.0 Connector Power Query Snowflake connector - Power Query | Microsoft Learn, specifically if doing any DISTINCT() evaluations. Just trying to understand if this mandatory upgrade also solves the issues noted in the article?Re: Track Power BI user activities with Activity Log
Hi Lorenz33 , Have you use the Feature Usage and Adoption report in the Admin Monitoring workspace? What is the admin monitoring workspace? - Microsoft Fabric | Microsoft Learn The report itself is helpful, but I built custom reports with the semantic model and it's really helpful to track every kind of activity - viewing reports, exporting reports, viewing via Apps, viewing via Teams interface, creating subscription, running subscription - those are just a few of the activities you can see. Here's a privatized version of a really active workspace in my tenant Then I wanted to have a custom report with different options and have some default filters applied - excluding certain operation activities, admin users, etc. This is my custom version - its just used in a team of 3 admins, so it was designed for function not "fashion" But we can search by an Activity type - I made a custom category of consumption vs non-consumption to delineate who is doing "pro license user activity" vs just a business consumer. I can search by workspace, UPN, item name (reports, datasets, dataflows, etc) Then we can drill through to get report specific activity breakdowns. My team loves using this to get quick stats on activity. But the dataset for it is just from the Feature Usage and Adoption report If this seems to solve your problem, I'd be happy to engage further on how we use it and our custom filters. Hi Community I'm trying to clarify my understanding about authentication with Gen1 Dataflow in Power BI Service. If I have a dataflow outputting several tables with sources on a network folder, then I know that I need an on-prem gateway connection to authenticate to that folder. Then another dataflow, in the same Workspace, with source from SQL and we have an on-prem gateway connection to authenticate to the server. In this same new dataflow, I need a table from from that upstream dataflow connected to the network folder. Regardless if I'm trying to use a computed table or a linked entity, I still need to have an authenticated connection - correct? Can that connection be a Personal Cloud connection, or does it have to go through the same Gateway as the SQL connection? While managing cloud connections, to another source, I noticed this warning and I starting to wonder if I actually understand how Gen1 Dataflows are authenticated. I think this message means that if a Dataflow is going to get data from an upstream Dataflow you can only use the On-prem Gateway or a Personal cloud connection. But a managed cloud connection, like authenticated with a service account, does not work. Please help to clarify my understanding. Hello Community, I'm the Power BI Admin for my org and I was doing some review and analytics on our workspace volume and discovered that MANY personal workspaces have been assigned into one of the Premium capacities. I have the option disabled so users cannot move the workspace to Premium. I have analyzed this list many times over in the past and have not seen this before. Does this seem like a bug in Power BI Service? I know there's an API to bulk assign personal workspace to a capacity, but I'm the only admin and I did not run this. I know I can move them out of Premium, but I will have to check about published content and viewing access first to not disrupt business operations. Thoughts? ideas? Green highlight is how I expect Personal workspaces - not in a capacity Red is a small sample of many I found to be in a Premium capacity
