Share an app works for some but not for all?

Hello

I hope someone can assist me? 🙂

I have a PowerBI Pro license, the others have PowerBI free. I downloaded a Microsoft app connected the data sources and it worked for me. I then sent a link to a colleague, from here he requested access and I went and approved his access at a link similar to the one below:

https://app.powerbi.com/groups/[UniqueIdentifier]/apps/publish/access

Some of the free users can access the app while others can't. The ones that can't are told that: "You need to upgrade your Power BI license to view this report". I read somewhere that for free users it needs to be put in a workspace with premium capacity. But since it works for about half the users this does not seem to be the issue.

So does anyone have an idea why it works for some users and not others?

Thank you! 🙂

Hi @Anonymous,

what do you mean exactly with "I downloaded a Microsoft app"? Did you use one of the Template apps from AppSource?

From there, for the others users to view the content:

  • the app either needs to be in a Premium workspace,
  • or the user needs a Pro license, it can also be a trial

There is no other way of viewing that app. Could you check if the users maybe have a trial license activated?
