Hi, @Qzzz

I am glad to help you.

What connection are you using to connect to SQL Server, Import? or DirectQuery?

There are two types of On-premises data gateway.

After looking at your pictures, I see that you are actually using a personal gateway, not a standard gateway as you mentioned in the other picture for online status?

Standard gateway:

Perhaps you could try logging into the personal gateway, then checking again that the personal gateway is online, and then testing again to see if it refreshes properly.

Here are some official documentations, hope they help:

Use a personal gateway in Power BI - Power BI | Microsoft Learn

Manage a SQL Server data source - Power BI | Microsoft Learn

I hope this option above will help you. If you still have problems, please contact us with your feedback and the steps you took. Please remember to hide your personal information! We will do our best to solve your problem!

I hope my suggestions give you good ideas, if you have any more questions, please clarify in a follow-up reply.

Hi @Anonymous ,

thanks for your reply!  After changing to personal gateway, the connection is online now !

One more question: Can i set my sql connection to a standard gateway if i am using a standard gateway ?It seems like it does not allow me to change it, the data source was generated automatically after i upload my power BI file.

Hi @Qzzz

Can you make sure that you have got the same details in the Gateway as in your SQL Server source?
