Row-Level Security 'Error'

Hello. This is my first time using the 'Apps' so thanks for your help. I'm using a live connection to an on-prem SSAS cube as my data sources and I have a couple of reports and a dashboard. I rolled it all up into an App and I tried sharing it with someone in my office. They are getting the following error: http://imgur.com/a/f4QTw. Everything works fine for me but they seem to be missing access somewhere. Any ideas? Thanks!

I am also getting this error for a user seemingly at random.  Exact same scenario as Sfowler.  An on-prem SSAS tabular model with no role or row based security configured.... just data.

Several other users are able to view the shared dashboard just fine but one gets this error.

It's very frustrating

Hi @sfowler,

Security

Multidimensional models support dimension and cell level security by way of Roles. When you connect to a cube with Power BI, you are authenticated and evaluated for appropriate permissions. When a user has dimension security applied, the respective dimension members are not seen by the user in Power BI. However, when a user has a cell security permission defined, where certain cells are restricted, then that user cannot connect to the cube using Power BI.

I would suggest you recheck if the dimension and cell level security are properly set on your on-prem SSAS cube. It should work if they're properly set as mentioned by @Seth_C_Bauer above. Smiley Happy

@sfowler have you confirmed that you have them set up correctly in the model? You could also try to share a dashboard with them to determine if the error you are getting is because of the App, or the model.

I'm not aware of any restrictions, this should work provided the user has the appropriate Pro license and is permissioned correctly.
