Report Usage Metrics not updating

Hi,

I have built a simple custom usage report which runs over the available Power BI 'Report Usage Metrics Model' datasets.

Whilst this seems to work fine for one of my workspaces, for the others it does not.  The dataset appears to be either empty or only reporting usage for myself, yet I am the admin of all the workspaces in question.

I know there have been issues with the usage stats in the past, but are there still problems?  Any idea why I can start a new PBIX, connect to one of the Report Usage Metrics Models and see lots of data in one but not in the other?  The reports are being used heavily every day so I know usage stats should be there.

Thanks

Mark

Hi @MarkSL ,

1.Please go to audit log check if there is any activity for the tracked report/dashboard.

2.To see the metrics for all the dashboards or for all the reports in the workspace, you have to remove a filter. See: https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/power-bi/service-usage-metrics#remove-the-filter-to-see-all-workspa....

3.It could take 24 hours to update the reports. Please test after 24 hours to see if the data is updated.

4.Your Power BI admin has to have enabled usage metrics for content creators. You Power BI admin may have also enabled collecting per-user data in usage metrics. Read about how to enable these options in the admin portal.

5.Please check these limitations here.

You can refer to the document: https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/power-bi/service-usage-metrics.

Best Regards,

Amy

Hi there,

in my case the following steps solved the problem:

  • Open the workspace
  • Select Power BI settings (Gear Icon) -> Manage Group Storage & add/ replace existing parameter

"?experience=power-bi" with "?showHiddenUsageMetricsModels=1"

  • Verify the UsageReport dataset and delete the dataset.
  • Created new Usage Metrics report in the workspace and verified latest available data - showing correctly

Afterwards you can select all wanted datasets in the UsageReportMetrics report.

Greets,

Fabian

Hi @MarkSL , how can I remove the report filter in the usage report? I would like to see usage data of all reports in the workspace. Can you attach a printscreen?

Hi there

Could it be that for each Reports Usage Metrics that it requires a new connection to a different dataset?

I would suggest using the Power BI Audit Logs as the source of truth
