Question about PowerQuery in Published Report

Hello,

I would like to create Reports that are automatically refreshed with data coming from a Microsoft SQL Server.

I've seen that the way to achieve that is using PowerQuery, which is only available in the Desktop version of Power BI.

If I create my reports using the Desktop version, and then publish them online, will the Reports still be automatically refreshed?

Thanks

Hi @hakimipous ,

You can also Schedule the refresh in Power BI Service to get the latest data from the source - https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/power-bi/connect-data/refresh-scheduled-refresh

Hi @Anonymous , thanks for replying

But you can't add a Microsoft SQL server as Dataset source, right?

@hakimipous,

What @Anonymous meant, was that after publishing the report from Desktop to the Service, you can set up a scheduled refresh as per the link provided. You would need:

  • a gateway installed for that,
  • and add the datasource as an entry to that gateway,
  • and add your user to the gateway entry so you can use it
  • in the dataset settings for scheduled refresh, make sure the gateway connection is correctly filled and applied
