Querying PBI datamart in Azure Data Studio

I used to query power bi datamarts in Azure Data Studio when the connection string had the suffix datamart.pbidedicated.microsoft.com but since the change to datamart.fabric.microsoft.com this doesn't seem possible. I get error "Login failed due to invalid authentication methods."

This is not a fabric business and only uses power bi.

Any ideas how to solve this?

Hi @Anonymous

The error message "Login failed due to invalid authentication methods" suggests there might be a change in the authentication mechanism required to connect to Power BI Datamarts after the suffix change in the connection string from datamart.pbidedicated.microsoft.com to datamart.fabric.microsoft.com. Here are a few steps you might consider to resolve this issue:

  1. Check for Updates: Ensure that both Power BI and Azure Data Studio are updated to the latest versions, as they may contain updates for connectivity and authentication methods.

  2. Review the Official Documentation: Look for any official announcements or documentation from Microsoft regarding changes to Power BI Datamarts and their connectivity. There might be updated steps or requirements for connecting to the new endpoint.

  3. Authentication Method: Review the authentication method you're using to connect. With changes in the service's URL, there may also be changes in the supported authentication methods. Ensure you are using the correct method (like OAuth, basic authentication, etc.).

  4. Firewall and Network Settings: Check if there are any firewall rules or network settings that might be blocking the connection to the new endpoint. The domain change might require updates to these settings.

  5. Contact Support: Since this change is relatively specific and technical, contacting Microsoft Support or consulting the Azure Data Studio or Power BI community forums might provide more targeted help.

Hi @Anonymous

I would expect the previous version of the connection string to still work. I'm not sure why it is not working when it has changed. I would suggest maybe creating a creating another login or double checking the connection details. I do have existing data marks which are still working successfully.
