Hi,
We have the issues with memory on our PowerBI Premium instance. The problem is that one report is failing with the memory message. But I found some tips how to improve it, so this is no problem for now.
But during the investigation I found something strange. The Metrics in portal.azure.com for this PowerBI instance show high memory usage, even when nothing runs (at least should) on the instance. For example I have for last night - from 6-7 PM to 8 AM we have around 5 GB usage. But I saw that on other days/times the usage is decreasing to 2-3 GB when nothing runs.
What is the rule?
How fast the PowerBI server frees the memory after refreshing/opening the report?
How much memory should the PowerBI instance use when it is idle?
How to check the processes running on the PowerBI when I can't connect to it through SSH?
Unfortunately, I can't find the answers easily in the Google. Or I miss some articles about PowerBI server memory management.
Thank you in advance for the answers 🙂

HI @Anonymous ,
You can take a look at official document about premium capacity workload:
What is Power BI Premium?#capacity workloads

Thank you for the answer 🙂
Unfortunately, I've made mistake in the previous post. We don't have Power BI Premium, but Power BI Embedded. It is confusing, we have a diamond next to the Workspace name and the tooltip saying "PowerBI Premium".
Are there any server side memory tricks for Power BI Embedded?
And what should be the memory consumption when nothing is running on the server?
We sometimes have 5 GB and sometimes 3 GB in such cases. How to check what's running/working on the server?
EDIT: Here is today chart from portal.azure.com with memory consumption. During night it was on 4.8 GB level, then it jumped to more than 6 GB (when reports refreshes started) and suddenly it decreased to 3.4 GB (even when the reports refreshes are still running). Could someone explain me, how the memory behaves on the PowerBI Embedded server?
I'm quite sure no one uses PowerBI during night.
Thank you in advance 🙂
