Power BI failed refresh- Not enough memory

Hello,

We've using on prem power bi for the last couple of years and never had an issue with the memory or automatic refreshes on the server. Starting last Wednesday afternoon, we've been experiencing refresh issues due. The error we're been getting is the following:

-1055129595: There's not enough memory to complete this operation. Please try again later when there may be more memory available.

We haven't changed anything on the server or in teh dashboards.

Can someone please advise as to what might be the problem/solution?

Thanks!

Hi,@ramb . I am glad to help you.
Here are some suggestions for the "out of memory" problem you are having with the service.

1. The refresh capacity available for Power BI Service is insufficient, if you are using the general shared capacity, it is recommended that you transfer to the advanced capacity for refreshing to seek a higher refresh capacity and more refreshing times.
2. The data set of the report itself is too large, because the accumulation of time causes the data set used by the report to be too large, so when loading to the service, due to the capacity itself needs to execute a series of execution commands, which itself will consume the capacity size, so it is recommended that you modify the data of the data set, and update and delete the data that is out of date and no longer in use in time, so as to reduce the size of the data set.
3. Try to avoid that the report performs refreshing tasks with other reports at the same time. Try to avoid the report and other reports to execute the refresh task at the same time, because the service on the common execution of the refresh report task will jointly consume the capacity, which may lead to the refreshing of this report when the capacity of the situation is insufficient
4. Although the server configuration remains unchanged, other applications or processes may be using more memory. You can try restarting the server to free up some memory.

I recommend you to use XMLA endpoint to realize the capacity detection and management on the service, to see the real capacity usage.

Luckily, I found a question from a user with a similar problem to yours that you can use as a reference and hopefully it will help you:
