Power BI Service SQL Connection Error

I started getting a connection error in Power BI Service and Desktop. I corrected the Desktop file by Unchecking the "Encrypt Connections" Option and I am now able to connect via the desktop. I am still unable to update the data set via Service.

I get the following Details:

Cannot connect to the mashup data source. See error details for more information.
Please try again later or contact support. If you contact support, please provide these details.

I have tried deleting the report and dataset from Service and reuploading the file with "encrypt Connection" unchecked. The Gateway software on the server is up-to-date. I cleared all of the permissions and re-entered them. I am still unable to connect. Looking for solutions.

Thank you,

Chris

Hi @v-piga-msft,

I have tried switching to my Personal Gateway. This gave me the same error. I uninstalled the Personal Gateway and reinstalled. I also checked to make sure the version of the Gateway and Power BI desktop are most up to date. I am still able to refresh in Power BI Desktop, but not in Power BI Service. I get a new error in Service. See below.

Hi @v-piga-msft,

The issue is not solved. I have submitted a ticket with my IT group who is now working with Microsoft to correct the issue. Interesting to note that Live Query appears to work, but Import does not. Even when using the same credentials on the same gateway. I will be pursuing this with my IT Department further.

Thank you,

Chris

Hi @chawkinsitron,

Based on your error message, it seems that the issue is caused by the credential you connect to the data source is invalid.

What kind of credential do you use when you connect the data source in Power BI Desktop?

You should use the same credential when you add data source in Gateway. Maybe you could remove the data source you add before and add it again with the valid credential in Data Gateway.

Best Regards,

Cherry
