Hi Folks
I have been using PBI for several years. The approach I have adopted is to develop a data model in Excel, complete with the relevant measures, and then import the excel file into PBI service. I then build PBI reports based on the Excel data model.
In the past I have imported the file manually using “get data” to do the initial import of the Excel file from a dropbox folder (located through browse and Windows Explorer), and then to re-import the Excel file when there are changes to the data tables. The get data process would prompt me each time that the file already exists and do I want to replace it.
This get data process has worked really well, or should I say did work really well!
The get data button is no longer available, at least I can’t see it anymore. [Note to developers Please bring back this functionality]
I have tried to read the relevant PBI information about removing the get data button. What I can find only talks about adding new Excel files.
The new button only seems to allow a new Excel file to be uploaded.
The upload button did not seem to recognise that there is an existing Excel file uploaded.
I did import my Excel file using the New button, hoping it would recognise that there is an existing file, but does not seem to have happened. The Excel file has been imported as a new file and a new dataset has been created. This has been created in another workspace.
Now I have two datasets with the same name located in different workspaces, which is very confusing.
The first dataset which is the source of the report I created - I cannot find a way to update this data source. The original imported Excel file seems to also have disappeared.
The second data source seems to be connected to the newly imported Excel file. To use this data model it looks like I will have to recreate all of the reports, based on this data set.
This is all very painful and confusing, particularly when the old get data system worked really really well.
I am happy to pay someone to help me work out what has happened and hopefully find a way to update the first dataset.
