Hi .. some problem.
In PowerBi service i have create da VNET-Datagateway and it works well with some reports.
I create a new Report/Dataset in PowerBi Desktop with a local SQL-Server Database as source.
Works fine an I publish this to PowerBi service.
Now i will change the settings for Dataset so it can access the database behind the VNET-Datagateway.
But when I open Dataset->Settings->Gateway and Cloud Connections,
I see the switch for 'Use an On-premises or VNet data gateway' is set to off and greyed out.
Below is the Message:
We didn't find any suitable data gateways to connect to the data sources that this dataset uses. Either install an on-premises data gateway and add the data sources that this dataset uses to it, or install a data gateway in personal mode to connect this dataset to its data sources.
Am I missing certain rights to use the VNET data gateway for new reports or what is the reason?
Hi @snboris
It usually happens when the dataset doesn’t bind correctly to the VNET gateway after publishing from Desktop.
Could you please check the below steps:
Server/database name mismatch: In Power BI Service, the dataset must match exactly (including case) what’s configured in the gateway.
Wrong gateway binding: Sometimes the dataset defaults to an on-prem gateway instead of the VNET one. Go to the dataset settings in the Service, under Gateway connection, and make sure the correct VNET gateway is listed and selected.
Workspace setup: VNET gateways require Premium or Fabric capacity. If your workspace isn't backed by one, the option won’t even show.
If the gateway still doesn’t appear after all that, it could be a region mismatch or the credentials weren’t saved correctly in the Service (even though they work in Desktop).
Please make sure the database server and database names specified in the dataset match EXACTLY the server address and database name specified in the gateway.
