Power BI Dataset and VNET-Gateway

Hi snboris

 

It usually happens when the dataset doesn’t bind correctly to the VNET gateway after publishing from Desktop. 

 

Could you please check the below steps:

  • Server/database name mismatch: In Power BI Service, the dataset must match exactly (including case) what’s configured in the gateway.

  • Wrong gateway binding: Sometimes the dataset defaults to an on-prem gateway instead of the VNET one. Go to the dataset settings in the Service, under Gateway connection, and make sure the correct VNET gateway is listed and selected.

  • Workspace setup: VNET gateways require Premium or Fabric capacity. If your workspace isn't backed by one, the option won’t even show.

If the gateway still doesn’t appear after all that, it could be a region mismatch or the credentials weren’t saved correctly in the Service (even though they work in Desktop).
