Populate a text box from power bi integration data into power apps visual embedded in power bi

I'm trying to populate a text box in power apps embedded in a power bi report by referring to the first record and a column name but it doesn't work.  Is it my syntax or something else?

The column is called 'user_login' from the data fed into power apps visualisation in power bi.

Hi @vfx661

Could you try this to see if it works to first connect to the data and make sure it shows up.

Hi @vfx661,

Thanks for reaching out to the Microsoft Forum community! I see you're having trouble populating a text box in your Power Apps visual embedded in a Power BI report with the user_login data.

I would also take a moment to personally thank @GilbertQ, Your contributions make a real difference.

Below are troubleshot steps to help you to resolve the issue:

  1. Please verify that the data source used for the Power Apps visualization in Power BI is properly configured and includes the 'user_login' column.
  2. Please confirm that the data source contains records and ensure the 'user_login' column is not empty. You may add a gallery or data table to display and verify the data.
  3. Please ensure that the Power Apps visual is correctly integrated with Power BI. In some cases, re-adding the Power Apps visual to the Power BI report can resolve any integration issues.
  4. Please review any error messages or warnings in Power Apps, as they may offer insights into the issue at hand.

If this helps, then please Accept it as a solution and dropping a "Kudos" so other members can find it more easily.

Thank you.

Hi @vfx661,

I understand the inconvenience of having to switch between Power BI Desktop and Service to test your Power Apps visual. Here’s how to address your challenge.

Currently, Power Apps visuals rely on live integration capabilities that are only available in Power BI Service. This means they won’t function as expected in Power BI Desktop.

  1. Before binding data directly to a text box, try displaying it in a Gallery or Table to ensure the user_login field is being received correctly.
  2. To avoid repeatedly publishing to Power BI Service for testing, you might consider using a temporary test dataset within Power Apps. This approach allows you to simulate the data structure without the need to utilize Power BI Service each time.
  3. Please create a separate test workspace in Power BI Service to publish work-in-progress reports. This approach will allow you to test Power Apps visuals without impacting the production reports.

If this limitation affects your workflow significantly, consider providing feedback on the Power BI Ideas Forum

Hi, I am using power bi desktop - it seems to work if I open the report in power bi service.  This is incredibly inconvenient and a workflow nightmare as we have to do editing in desktop for the data modelling, then publish to service, then back to desktop and we can't test with power apps unless publishing to service again.  Is there a way to make it work from power bi desktop?

Hi @vfx661,

May I ask if you have resolved this issue? If so, please mark the helpful reply and accept it as the solution. This will be helpful for other community members who have similar problems to solve it faster.

Thank you.
