Open the data model

Hello,

I just started my new role and I need to update the dashboards in Power BI Apps. I tried opening the data model for by selecting More options (...) and Open data model. However, I am getting an error message. Is there a way to fix that?

I could use Power BI dashboard but then I would have to update all the links.

Thanks,

Bruna

Hello @b-kopik ,

but as @rohit1991  mentioned, there should be a sematic model that the report is reading from, try clicking on the lineage view and see where the report is connected.

this is the lineage view on the right side of the page

Thank you! I was able to view the model but it still won't show the dataset. Are you able to share a screenshot so I can see what to look for?

Hi @b-kopik

It looks like you’re getting this error because “Open data model” only works when you have Build permission on the dataset in the workspace where it’s published.

If the dataset is part of an app, you can view reports but won’t be able to open or edit the model unless:

  1. You have direct access to the workspace with Contributor or Member role.

  2. Or, the dataset owner grants you Build permission on that dataset.

Ask your admin or the dataset owner to either:

     1. Add you as a Contributor/Member in the workspace.

     2. Or share the dataset with you and enable Build.

Once you have that access, “Open data model” should work without errors.
