On-premise data gateway rename not reflect within the gateway server configuration

I need to rename some existing on-premise data gateway. I login to https://make.powerapps.com/  -> Gateways -> select the gateway and renamed them. This part is fine.

But when I login to each gateway server, the name are not changed even after restart service. When I sign-in to the configuration the status page mention "The gateway Oldname is online and ready to be used.". It cause a lot of confusion in future. How should I sync the gateway names properly?

Gateways are a purely virtual construct. They exist as meta data in the Power BI Service.  You have no control over which cluster member in the gateway cluster is handling your request  (although you can see it after the fact by checking the logs on the cluster members)

However, for example, when I try to create a new Connection under https://make.powerapps.com/ , I need to choose a gateway. Here I can see the New Gateway Name. But "Name" is the only property I can see. We cannot know the IP address, server hostname, or another remark for the gateway.

Right now I am keeping the records (Oldname --> Newname) in an Excel file. Is there any other method to distinguish between different gateways? Without the Excel file we have to turn On/Off each gateway to verify.

PowerApps/ Power Automate gateway management is wholly independent of the Power BI Gateway administration console.  You can see that for example with the connections created by Power Automate  - they will not be visible on the Power BI side, and vice versa.

If you must change the name, change it in the Power BI admin page.
