New/Returning Users Get Sign Up Message?

We have E5 license in our organization, which includes Power BI pro. Occasionally, users will get this message when logging in:

It looks like Microsoft Power BI isn't currently available for your work or school.

They are asked to finish signing up with their work or school email, but they should already be signed up.

If the user logs into yammer or other M365 service though, and then navigates to Power BI, it works fine. It seems to only happen if they try to go directly into Power BI.

Anyone else experience this and have some ideas about what would cause the issue and how to fix this?

Hi @SeattlePowerBI ,

What email address are you using to signup? It should be an work or school email, Power BI free account do not support personal emails like gmail.com, outlook.com, hotmail.com.. Refer to this microsoft blog if it helps any.

You o365 Admin has to assign you a free Power BI licence in 0365 admin center if you are using you org/school account.

It is weird, because these users do have E5's assigned, no free license and it only is affecting a few users. Most are fine. I can't replicate it on my end unfortunately.

Hi @SeattlePowerBI ,

The issue could be related to that the Power BI license was disabled in Office 365 admin center by your admin.

Please contact you Office 365 to check if Power BI license is disabled or not.

If I have misunderstood your meaning, please provide your more dere details.

Hi @SeattlePowerBI

What I would do is to go into Azure Active Directory and then make sure that the user has been assigned either the E5 license or the Power BI Pro license.

It might be that some accounts have also got a Power BI Free license, which often can cause issues.

Hi There-

I checked in the admin center and they do have E5s. No free licenses.
