Need Help ASAP!!! Dataflow Tables Gone!

Hi all,

I was in one of my dataflows that houses about 30 tables from single SQL Instance. I was in the Power Query view of the dataflow where I could see all of the tables. I then jumped out (Cancel button as I did not make any changes). I then clicked the "Add Table" button to add the new table I needed to, connected to the datasource, entered in my SQL query, took me to the Power Query editor. Wasn't paying attention I guess, because I can faintly remember that when Power Query editor came up, the new table was the only one in the left side table list. Made the necessary changes, saved the table, and now the only table in the dataflow is the new table and the other 30 are gone.

What are my options to get the other tables back. There were refreshed successfully about an hour ago. Any ideas?

Hi @dbrandone ,
Thank you for posting in the Microsoft Fabric Community. Also thankyou @GilbertQ  for your inputs.

When adding the new table, the existing queries were not retained in the Power Query editor, and saving the dataflow overwrote the previous 30 tables. Unfortunately, Power BI Dataflows do not have a built-in undo option, but there are a few ways you can attempt recovery.

First, you can try using the Power BI Scanner API to retrieve metadata, including the Power Query (M) scripts for your dataflow. This might help recover the lost queries, allowing you to manually recreate them. If your organization has audit logging enabled, you can also check the Microsoft Purview Compliance Center for recent modifications to the dataflow and possibly extract the previous structure.

If backups were taken in your Power BI workspace, restoring from a previous version might be an option.

Hi @dbrandone

The only thing that springs to mind where you could maybe see what were in the contents of your dataflow is to use the scanner API, which should then have all the data with regards to your data flows as well as the power query expressions that were in there. The only other option is to longer support ticket.
