Modify source table with re-publishing

Hi have data coming from a server published to Power BI service.  Is there a way to make changes to a table (add or remove columns in the dataset) without re-publishing the dataset.  Updates don't come through when I refresh.

Hi @tbrown33 ,

If you want to update the data model but don't want to republish the report, this won't work. Not only that, you have to go to the advanced editor in the query editor to check if the columns you deleted or added still exist before republishing the report.

Also, if you update the data model, your report will not change if the deleted or added columns are not referenced in the report. Conversely, it will definitely be affected.

The visuals not updating would be fine.  What I'm trying to do is update a dataset (add or remove columns) published to the service coming through the gateway.    A report is already created and I would like to make data model adjustments without loosing the report.   The report gets deleted when I re-publish the updated dataset.

I'd like to be able to update the dataset and keep the existing report as is.      Is this possible?

Depends on the source, but no visuals will update. You'll just get more data in the model that won't be used. You have to create measures or add fields to visuals.
