Locked Bookmarks filters not taken in account when filters updated

Hi,

The problem is that bookmarking removes filter applied to all pages (whereas it is locked).

The behavior is very weird because calling bookmark removes the filter on data but keeps showing that filter is locked.
Having this causes problems in company because if a creator wants to add a filter to a report (applied to all pages for all users), there may be strange behaviors when users use their old bookmarks.

In the documentation this behavior should make the bookmark unusable, which would be normal

It does not have an API to update or delete personal signs.

Here is a diagram of the impact it does have : diagram explaining — Freeimage.host

Can you correct this ?

Thank you in advance.

calling bookmark removes the filter on data but keeps showing that filter is locked.

You could call this a bug, or a design flaw.  Very similar to the incompatibility between default filter values and RLS.

Hi @mbourdel , thank you for reaching out to the Microsoft Fabric Community Forum.

Thank you @lbendlin  for your prompt and appropriate response. We appreciate it, but if we may, would like to add some troubleshooting steps to consider before raising a support ticket:

  1. Reapply the filter at the report level and save a new bookmark. This can help determine if the issue only affects old bookmarks.
  2. In Power BI Service, encourage users to click "Reset to Default" before applying their bookmarks. This ensures they start with the latest filters applied by the report owner.
  3. Ensure you are using the latest version of Power BI Desktop. Microsoft may have patched this behaviour in newer versions.
  4. If the above didn’t work for you, then as suggested by @lbendlin the best next step is to report this issue to Microsoft Support, as it may be a bug or a backend issue. You can provide them with all the troubleshooting steps you've already taken, which will help them understand the issue better and provide a resolution. They might be able to provide a solution that isn't immediately obvious.

Hi,

Thanks everyone for you answer, but I I still got my problem,

we already created a ticket to support, but they called us and it was the "normal behaviour" which we don't agree, so I still feel stuck.

If you don't agree with a feature you can initiate a "Design Change Request" process with your designated Microsoft Support contact.

Hi, thank you for your quick response.

Sorry, I forgot to mention it in the begining, but the problem I am pointing is for Personal bookmark meaning that we do not have the possibility to do the actions you listed @v-hashadapu :

"1. Reapply the filter at the report level and save a new bookmark. This can help determine if the issue only affects old bookmarks."

As admins, we have no rights for personal bookmark.

"2. In Power BI Service, encourage users to click "Reset to Default" before applying their bookmarks. This ensures they start with the latest filters applied by the report owner."

This feature is not possible for personal bookmark.

"3. Ensure you are using the latest version of Power BI Desktop. Microsoft may have patched this behaviour in newer versions."

We are using version 2.137.952.0 64-bit (october 2024), and latest version (january 2025) is not correcting it.

Do I need to create a ticket to support ?

Thank you in advance for your return.

Hi @mbourdel , thank you for reaching out to the Microsoft Fabric Community Forum.

Apologies for the confusion on our side and thank you for making the issue clearer to us.

Yes, you are correct. As a report developer or admin, you don't have control over personal bookmarks, and there is no API or admin feature to update or delete them. Personal bookmarks are managed by individual users.

The issue you're describing, where personal bookmarks interfere with report-level filters by visually retaining a locked filter but functionally removing it, does indeed sound like unexpected behaviour. So yes, reporting the issue to Microsoft Support by raising a support ticket is the best approach. They can investigate the problem further and provide a resolution.

Thanks everyone for you answer, but I I still got my problem,

we already created a ticket to support, but they called us and it was the "normal behaviour" which we don't agree, so I still feel stuck.

but the problem I am pointing is for Personal bookmark

As a report developer you have no control whatsoever over personal bookmarks, and neither should you.

The only thing you can do is maliciously alter the meta data so that those personal bookmarks break if they rely on said meta data.  Not saying you should.
