Install App Automatically Disabled

Hi,

I am a Power BI Pro User and am also trialling Premium Per User. I have the Power BI admin role.

I am trying to enable "Install App Automatically".

In the tenant settings, previously "Push Apps to end users" was set to Entire Organisation. When updating apps, "Install App Automatically" tickbox was disabled. As I understand from reading similar posts on this forum, the ability to set Push Apps to end users for Entire Organisation does not work.

So instead, I changed "Push Apps to end users" to be Specific security groups and added a group to this. The group is an AD Security Group and I am definitely a member of this group. I made this update to the tenant settings yesterday morning. Today, the option to "Install App Automatically" is still greyed out and the info it provides says my organisation has disabled this functionality.

Please could someone advise where I am going wrong with this?

Thank you

Jenni

After consulting Microsoft Support, I have found why it is not working.

Here is the solution:

Tenant Settings:

"Push App to End Users" needs to be enabled and set to Entire Organisation.

Update App:

Under "Permissions" tab, the "Access" needs to be set to Specific Individuals, Install App Automatically is only supported when you select Specific Individuals or Groups.

The "Install App Automatically" checkbox will then be enabled.

@Jenni-Sky,

that's strange, because as you saw in my screenshot, it is working at our end.

I suggest if you have a Pro account, you open a (free) support ticket. Go to the support page to file a support ticket.

@Jenni-Sky,

the last setting is still enabled for a subset of the organization. As I understand from your response, you don't belong to that group (because that didn't work with the Publish apps to the entire organization setting), so that's why it's not working IMO.

So either get yourself into that security group, or enable it for the entire organization.

@nickyvv

Setting both "Push Apps to end users" and "Publish apps to entire organisaion" both to "the entire organisation" did not work, these were the original settings and the Install App button was still greyed out. According to a response on this thread:

https://community.powerbi.com/t5/Service/Install-App-Automatically-for-Entire-Organization/m-p/51063...

Installing apps for entire organisation is not supported for entire organisations, although the response is a few years old so perhaps might be outdated.

I am a part of the security group:

Hi @Jenni-Sky,

you are close to solving the problem, but there are actually 2 tenant settings under Content pack and app settings.

There's Push apps to end users, which lets you enable this check mark:

End there's Publish content packs and apps to the entire organization, which enables the option you are looking for:

Hi @nickyvv  thank you for responding!

I previously had "Publish content packs and apps to the entire organization" set to Enabled with Radio button ticked for entire organisation. I have tried changing it to Specific individuals or group and set it to use the same group as "Push apps to end users", and have given some time to allow the change to kick in, but "Install apps automatically" is still showing as disabled.

I have changed "Publish content packs and apps to the entire organization" back to Entire Organisation, as I could see that changing it to Specific Individuals prevented me from publishing the app to the entire organisation in the Update App settings.

Are there any other settings which I should be changing please? Some screenshots below:
