Incremental refresh with select statement

Hi,

I want to incremental refresh and have set the parameters and published the dataset to the server.

We are using an on-premise gateway and I got added as a user. For data load I am using a select * statement. The incremental refresh is not working and I suppose it is because of the select *.

The database where I am loading the data from is not added as a datasource specifically.

When I go and look and the native query it is greyed out - which should be because of the select * statement.

So I suppose the query folding is not working with a select * statement.

If I select data from the database directly I am able to see the native query which has a where clause. But uploading the dataset with this setting won’t show me the on-premise gateway.

Now the question is do I need to insert a where clause into the select * statement so that I can use incremental load?
Or do I need to add the database where the data into as a datasource into the gateway?

Thanks!

Hi there

When using incremental refresh you have to either use a table or view for incremental refresh to work.

With regards to your question on the datasource in the Gateway I would suggest going into your PBIX and clicking on Transform data and selecting Data Source Settings.

Take those settings and add them into your Gateway Data source in the Power BI Service.
