Incorrect Data in Reports Usage Metrics

Hi, I noticed that the reports usage metrics are incorrect, specially the Total Page Views data.

One of my reports is a one-page report. I am expecting that the Total Page Views should be at least equal, if not greater than the Report Opens since there's only one page in the report.

However, for all the viewers, there's blank page views, except for me who created and constantly checks the report for errors. Is it possible the page views via the app is not included in the count? Is this a bug?

Another issue raised is that the page views count is not updating? Our CEO claimed that he's been opening the reports several times in a day, and viewing the pages within the report. But it's not reflected in the usage metrics data?

Thank you.

The issues you're encountering with incorrect data in the Reports Usage Metrics in Power BI can be frustrating. Here are some possible explanations and steps to address them:

1. Blank Page Views:
- Blank page views might occur if users open the report but don't interact with it in a way that triggers a page view event. Page views are typically counted when there is navigation between different report pages or interactions such as drill-through actions. If your report has only one page and there are no interactions, this could explain why you see fewer page views than report opens.

2. App Usage:
- You mentioned the possibility that page views via the app are not included in the count. Power BI usage metrics are supposed to capture interactions from both the web-based service and the mobile app. However, if there is an issue with tracking app usage, it could contribute to discrepancies.

3. Delayed Metrics Updates:
- Sometimes, there can be a delay in the update of usage metrics in Power BI. It's possible that the metrics will catch up and show the correct values after some time. You may want to wait and see if the data eventually reflects the actual usage.

4. CEO's Page Views Not Reflecting:
- If the CEO claims that he's been opening and viewing the reports, but it's not reflected in the usage metrics, there could be various reasons. Ensure that the CEO is using the correct link to access the report and that there are no issues with their permissions.

Steps to Address the Issues:

1. Verify Interactions:*Check if there are any interactions, slicer changes, or other actions that could trigger page views within the report. Even on a one-page report, interactions like clicking on visuals can count as page views.

2. Test App Usage:*Test the report usage via the Power BI mobile app to see if it behaves differently in terms of metrics tracking. Compare the results to web-based usage.

3. Wait for Updates:*Sometimes, usage metrics can take time to update. Monitor the metrics over a longer period to see if they eventually reflect the correct values.

4. Check Permissions: Ensure that all users, including the CEO, have the necessary permissions to access and view the report.

5. Contact Power BI Support: If the issues persist and you suspect there might be a bug or a technical issue with tracking, consider reaching out to Microsoft Power BI support for further assistance. They can investigate and provide insights into the specific issues you're facing.

In summary, the discrepancies you're encountering may have various causes, including user interactions, app usage, and potential delays in metrics updates. By investigating these factors and reaching out to support if necessary, you can work towards resolving the issues with the Reports Usage Metrics.

Thank you @123abc ! This makes a lot of sense. I did not know that the user needs to interact with the report page for it to be counted as report page view.
