I tried to connect the dataset to the gateway (use personal mode), but is not successful and found the message. I checked the dataset and gateway status is online. Please kindly assist. thanks
I know why you have this error, it is all because you chose Direct Query while choosing the source.
Delete all Source Table with a type of Direct Query and try again with Gateway Personal. Everything will be fine. I tried and succeeded
Hi @TanChau0602 , you might be right... 1 of my tables it's with direct query...
but I have another blocker, 1 of my sources it's an oracle DB and I can use and update the report thru PBI desktop but it doesn't work via online/schedule update, Gateway doesn't work and the paper published on internet it's outdated, oracle software doesn't work! Do you know how to fix it ?
Hi,
I have exactly the same issue: Gateway is up-an-running, no error on network port test, no error on service (using browser) but when I try to use the personal mode gateway it shows the same error !!!
I'm freaking out.
I resolved my issue by install the Power Bi Gateway in Standard mode. For some reason the Power Bi Gateway in (Personal Mode) did not work.
It works fine now. I just had to update my PowerBi Service reports to use the new Gateway.
Here is the comparision:
Use a personal gateway in Power BI - Power BI | Microsoft Learn
Hope this helps others
I have the exact same problem. Started recently in th elast month? I have done all the above tests and checks and I get the same error:
Failed to use the selected gateway. Please make sure the gateway is up and running and try again.
The error message in the screenshot indicates that the Power BI service was not able to find the specified gateway or the gateway is not registered. Here are a few things you can try to troubleshoot the issue:
Check if the gateway is running: Open the gateway application on the machine where it is installed and make sure it is running.
Check if the gateway is registered: Go to the Power BI service, click on the gateway and check if it is registered to the same workspace as the dataset.
Check if the gateway is named correctly: Double-check that the gateway name in the dataset and the gateway application match.
Check if the gateway is up-to-date: Make sure that you are running the latest version of the gateway.
Check the network configuration: Ensure that the gateway can communicate with the Power BI service. Check the firewall settings and make sure the necessary ports are open.
Thank you for your help.
For point 1 & 4, it is running and the latest version.
For point 2, the gateway and data source is online.
For point 3, i use personal mode. no name can be set. please kindly assist.
For point 5, the on-premises data gateway's network port test result is successful.
Regards
Many thanks.
