What is the reason that some connected Excel workbooks present as Excel books, and others as Web ? All of the sources are Excel books, but we noticed that books with .xlsx extensions exist as Excel, but .xlsm as Web connection. What is the reason behind of that?

Hi @Anonymous
Normally when importing local file in Power BI Desktop, we'll use specific file-type connector to import that file. However, if the file (such as Excel workbook or CSV) is located on the web, we must use the Web connector to import the file. Power BI will judge the type of the file itself. If Power BI judge the content of link as an Excel workbook, it will connect to the data source like connecting to an local Excel. If Power BI judge the content of the link as an web page, it will connect to the data source like connecting to a web page. For Excel exists as Excel or Web connection, this should be affected by the version of the Excel file and Data display format in the link.
1 Connect to a xlsx file on OneDrive by Web connector
2 Connect to a xlsm file on OneDrive by Web connector
3 Connect to a CSV file on OneDrive by Web connector
4 Connect to a xlsx file on Google by Web connector

Thank you for clarification.
I was wondering mostly about first two points you have mentioned, xlsx / xlsm. What is the difference for them for Power BI, that they have different types of connection? Both of them Excel books, and both are stored on OneDrive.
