1. I created a data set in the PBI service.
2. I used analyze in excel to create a pivot table based on that data set.
3. I used Get Data in the PBI service to upload that Excel file into the PBI service.
I see the file under Workbooks in the service and open it. It looks great. But it will not allow me to refresh the data from the data set or use any of the drop downs, etc. in the pivot table. It says Data Refresh Not Supported. When I mouse over the info icon, it says only workbooks with a data model can be refreshed.
Am I missing something in how this was created or is refreshing a pivot from a data set not allowed?
Thanks,
Dan
Hi,
I advise you to upload your Excel file to OneDrive.
Best Regards,

Hey @dlwallace
The Pivot Table does not have a live connection to the Power BI File. Therefore, data would have to be refreshed manually.
Files on One Drive are automatically updated on Power BI Service. It functions just like Excel Online.
If you want a live dataflow from Power BI to excel see this article: https://community.powerbi.com/t5/Community-Blog/How-to-enable-Excel-Pro-s-to-use-Power-BI-Datasets/b...
And mayeb this one: https://powerbi.microsoft.com/en-us/blog/analyze-in-excel-from-power-bi-publisher-july-update/
If this helps please kudo
