My Date dataflow refresh failed for two days in a row but I can't figure out what the problem is:

2024-11-26 00:31:01,Date,Failed,Date,N.v.t.,Mislukt,2024-11-26 00:31:01,2024-11-26 00:31:32,00:00:30.9170,N.v.t.,N.v.t.,N.v.t.,N.v.t.,N.v.t.,N.v.t.,Error: Request ID: efada11c-2656-4b75-b68d-6d94f61a283c Activity ID: 9860d45e-e186-4a6f-adfa-d521f0d8fed5

Does someone know what is happening here?

Hi @Janee

The error suggests an issue during the dataflow refresh process. Check these common causes:

  1. Data Source: Ensure the data source is reachable and credentials are valid.
  2. Capacity/Performance: If using Premium, check for capacity overload.
  3. Query Errors: Inspect query transformations for invalid steps or broken references.

Also if you want to debug, you can use the below steps:

  • Open the dataflow in Power BI and check for errors in the query.
  • Use the Request ID and Activity ID to get detailed logs from the Power BI admin portal.

Hi @Janee ,

There have been recent issues with refreshes failing due to invalid Snowflake credentials, if you are not, please provide a detailed error message so we can troubleshoot the issue.

Hope it helps!

Hi @Janee - The exact cause isn't immediately clear from the details provided

Analyze the Error Details:

Look at the Request ID (efada11c-2656-4b75-b68d-6d94f61a283c) and Activity ID (9860d45e-e186-4a6f-adfa-d521f0d8fed5).
These IDs can be shared with Microsoft Support if further investigation is needed.
Check Data Source Connectivity:

Ensure that the data source for your dataflow is accessible and the credentials are up to date.
If your data source is on-premises, confirm that the gateway is running and properly configured.
Review Dataflow Query Logic:

Open the dataflow in Power BI Service and inspect the query transformations.
Look for operations that might be causing errors, such as:
Invalid or missing columns.
Changes to the schema or structure of the data source.
Null or unexpected values.
Inspect Refresh History:

Navigate to the Refresh History for the dataflow:
Go to the workspace in Power BI Service.
Select the dataflow, click the More options (...), and choose Settings > Refresh History.
Look for specific error messages or patterns in recent failures.
Check Resource Usage:

If the refresh is timing out or failing due to resource constraints, consider optimizing the query or increasing the refresh timeout (if available).
Test Incremental Refresh:

If your dataflow handles a large volume of data, enable Incremental Refresh to process only new or changed data instead of refreshing the entire dataset.
Validate the Power Query M Code:

Open the Advanced Editor in Power Query for your dataflow and verify that the M code does not have syntax errors or unsupported functions.
Monitor Gateway (if applicable):

If you're using an On-premises Data Gateway, ensure:
It's up to date.
It has access to the data source.
The Power BI Service account is properly configured in the gateway settings.

Contact Microsoft Support:

If you cannot resolve the issue after these steps, contact Microsoft Support and provide the Request ID and Activity ID for detailed troubleshooting.
