Embedded Report Not Displaying Data (Using two semantic models as direct query)

Hi all,

I do have some PBI Reports Embedded in my company. All of them work just fine, except for one that I've tried to "mix" semantic models inside it. It's not showing any specific error, just this in all graphics.zehmenezes_0-1751051157336.png

When I click to see details, this is what I receive (nothing that actually helps):

Error fetching data for this visual

Hi @zehmenezes ,

Yes, you can embed Power BI reports that uses composite models into your company’s website with a few important considerations.

Composite models allow you to combine imported data with DirectQuery sources, including Power BI semantic models, Azure Analysis Services, and SQL Server Analysis Services.

The main limitation is: DirectQuery to Azure Analysis Services is not supported in Power BI Embedded. If your composite model includes this type of connection, embedding will fail.
Also make sure to

  • Embed tokens properly.
  • Ensure that all data sources used in the composite model are accessible to the embedding context.
  • Use Premium capacity if your report relies on advanced features like large models or DirectQuery to Power BI datasets

Hope this helps!

Hi @zehmenezes ,

In addition to this you can check for direct query credential issue. When combining semantic models with other data sources (e.g., SQL or Excel), credential mismatches or certificate validation errors can prevent visuals from loading. This is  common when the semantic model uses direct lake and falls back to DirectQuery due to unsupported features.

https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/fabric/known-issues/known-issue-985-direct-lake-query-cancellation...

Check and update credentials for each data source in Power BI service. Also, try to

switch to composite models.Instead of live connections, use composite models that combine imported and DirectQuery data.

If still you are facing the isssue consider posting in issues forum here-

Hope this helps!

Hello @v-sdhruv. This is a PoC file, I only have these two sources:

The data is coming from two sources as shown, but they are both hosted in the same Fabric Worskpace. About changing it to "Composite Models": am I going to be able to embed it in my company's website after migrating?

your users must have registered ("installed") both apps from the participating semantic models before this will work.

there's only one app in my company and this app works for all my pbi embedded reports (have more than 20 PBIs published).

Hello @zehmenezes

The message “Error fetching data for this visual” usually pops up when something’s blocking the visual from retrieving its data
