DirectQuery Azure SQL DB Data Source Credentials is DISABLED

I have 2 PBI reports in using Desktop, connecting to Azure SQL DB

1. ImportQuery - Azure SQL DB

2. DirectQuery - Azure SQL DB

I got Power BI Pro account, I've published the 2 reports, they both show error, "There is no gateway to acces the data source", > Dataset setting to fix the error:

1. ImportQuery - Azure SQL DB -> Data Source Credentials -> input the correct credentials -> FIXED

2. DirectQuery - Azure SQL DB -> Data Source Credentials is DISABLED

 Hi , @Anonymous

As @nickyvv  mentioned ,

Your data source doesn't need the On-premises data gateway (Azure SQL DatabaseAzure SQL Data Warehouse, or Redshift), so you only need  to edit  credentials before the Power BI service shows the published report as below.

I'm already requested our Azure Admin to check the security settings if it follows the configurations to enabled direct query connection.

Thanks for the help.

Will provide feedback once I've confirmed this to our admin.

Hi , @Anonymous

You can refer to this article Azure SQL Database with DirectQuery

The following two points are important:

If you  make sure that servername and firewall are fine and the problem is still unresolved,  I suggest you to open a ticket here for help if you are a pro user.

Hi @Anonymous,

from what I understand from the docs, for Direct Query to Azure SQL DB, you must set the credentials in the service.

The steps you have to take are outlined here:

  1. In the Power BI service, select the Settings gear icon and choose the Settings menu item.

  2. In the Power BI service's Settings page, select the Datasets tab, choose the dataset that uses DirectQuery, and select Edit credentials.

  3. Add the credentials. Otherwise, an error occurs when you open a published report or explore a dataset that's created with a DirectQuery connection.
