Deployment Pipeline Issues

Hi,

I'm having an issue with the deployment pipeline. When moving a report with a live connection to data online from the Source workspace to destination workspace, the report in the destination workspace provides the option of downloading a copy of the report and data.

Previously that option was disabled and you would need to go back to the sourtce stage to even download the report. This is now no longer the case. I suspect has something to do witbn the Auto Binding? If so where would I find the auto binding settings?

I have taken the following steps to rectify the following issue but still no solution:

Unassuign workspaces and reassign

Delete pipeline and recreate

Previously in destination workspace:

We are on Premium Capacity.

Thanks

Current in destination workspace:

Hi @ashtondsa,

when you deploy a report from source to target, it should automatically rebind to the dataset already deployed to the target workspace. When auto-binding fails or is skipped, the report ends up having no associated dataset in the new workspace, so Power BI lets users download a PBIX with the data instead

above behavior mentioned indicates that the report is not correctly bound to the dataset in the destination workspace after deployment. When auto-binding fails or is skipped, Power BI treats the report as unbound, which results in the “Download this file” option (with data) becoming available, even in workspaces where it was previously restricted.

here is how you can check Auto-Binding for report:
Go to the destination workspace → Open the report → Click “View Lineage”.

If the report is connected to the dataset in the same workspace, auto-binding worked

  •

Try below troubleshooting steps:

Fix the Binding Manually

  • Go to destination workspace → Open the report.

  • Click on File > Settings or use Model > Switch dataset.

  • Rebind the report to the dataset in the same workspace (the one deployed via pipeline).

  • Save changes. After binding:

    1. The PBIX with data option should disappear again.

    2. Only the “live connection” option will remain.

Try Re-deploying from Pipeline with Clean Targets

Before re-deploying:

  • Delete the report and dataset in the destination.

  • Re-deploy from the source stage.

  • This ensures clean auto-binding.

Let me know if above troubleshooting steps helps?

Hi @v-prasare

Thanks for your feedback. Just to be clear:

Prevous State:

Source:

Report connected to semantic model via live connection

Destination:

Report connected to semantic model via live connection. Semantic model uses destination parameters.

Dowloading report from the destination workspace is not possible (Dowload this report option is greyed out)

Current State:

Source:

Report connected to semantic model via live connection

Destination:

Report connected to semantic model via live connection. Semantic model uses destination parameters.

Dowloading report from the destination workspace is possible with both options (Dowload as live connection & copy of report with data)

I have reviewed your steps and can confirm that destination report is connected to destination semantic model, however the download options are available now when previously this wasn't the case. I have deleted my pipeline and created a new one to re test the behaviour and it is not working.

I'm not sure if there was a recent update that has caused this issue?

Regards

Ashton
