Dataset used as DirectQuery - column not appearing

Hi

Created dataset to use it as a DirectQuery connection to another workspaces/reports. All is working except: Later I've added a column to unerlying dataset, refreshed all reports in need, but that column does not appear in reports. (opened report in edit mode and column is not listed)

I really dont want to go to desktop and reconnect all querys..

Hi @rivo201 ，

You have to edit the source query to change the number of columns in Power BI Desktop. It does not automatically add the additional columns. It‘s by design.

You can go to query editor and look for "Transform Sample File" on left hand side and select it.

Select advanced editor on top center and you colud increase the number of columns your sample file can possibly contain.

Hi, thank you for your answer. 

If I have DirectConnection to dataset, there is "no data to transform nor edit" - it is not visible in Power Query editor.

Main question still is: Do you really have to open file and reconnect all connection (lets say i have 100 reports using one common dataset) reports one by one.. it does not seem ideal..

yep, that's exactly what is happening in real life. It gets even worse when someone removes a column from the shared "golden"  dataset. The Power BI Service meta data engine is easily confused.

Where and how?  In the PBIX file?  Did you then re-publish the pbix?

Yes. "Added column"  to PBIX (underlying data comes from API connection), published, confirmed that published dataset tables have requiered column. 

Reports, that have been made before direct connected dataset has changed, do not have that added column.

I looked into the PBIX (where dataset is referenced), if i refreshed (refresh all) data and event then column does not appear. 

Column appears only, if i re-ceate/connect the dataset.
