Dataset Confusion

Hope you can clear up some confusion. I have a streaming dataset which has the historical analysis flag set to true. I can successfully push data to the dataset. However, when I try to write any report it aggregates the data within the set to include each pushed record.

I don't want it to store the historical data sets. However, if I turn the historical flag off the data is not stored as then it is a pure Streaming Dataset.

I can find no way in code to clear down the dataset without switching it to an app??

I am a bit lost really - have I got the wrong end of the stick with this?
