Solved! Go to Solution.
the "natural" successor to datamarts are DF Gen2 feeding into a destination that has a SQL Endpoint.
Semantic models are an alternative that is certainly worth considering. It would simplify the whole configuration.

As of now, Microsoft has not officially announced the deprecation or discontinuation of Power BI Datamarts.
If Datamarts are working well for your current use case, there is no immediate need to migrate. However, if you are developing something new, consider exploring Fabric’s Data Warehouse or Lakehouse, which offer greater scalability, performance, and flexibility.
If your organization values self-service capabilities and ease of use, continuing with Datamart might be advantageous. On the other hand, if you need more advanced data modeling and performance optimization, Power BI Desktop models could be a better option.
