I am very to the Power BI and I am learning it by myself. I have just sign up free power BI account. For learning purpose I took data of "Case Data from San Francisco" I exported those data in xlxs format and imported into the Power BI.
As per the suggestion of Power BI, I just defined the Excel data to table by pressing ctrl + T.
Now the problem like
Many more things. Now my question is do I am missing something? Do I have do something with excel file before importing it?

I just recreated your steps. Took me a minute to figure out how to work with the data, but was able to create a column chart with Status. See below, if you substitute Opened or Opened Data for Supervisor District, you will get similar visuals. However, all of this being said, there are limitations within the Service for manipulating data and such. You will probably have better success if you download Desktop (free) and import your data into that and then publish.
