Data refresh issue in regards to SharePoint(CSV files)

We have been working on a project where we use share point as the data source.
We have encountered one issue.
Initially the data refresh service used to fail 2-3 times sometimes and than eventually get refreshed but currently the data source files exceeds 700 count ( approximately) and now the data refresh service shows error.

However when i try to refresh the data from desktop,it works completely fine.
Is this some limitations of using share point as source data or a bug?

Hi, @nayankunjir1410

According to connecting to SharePoint Folder, I think the first thing you should check is to make sure that all of the filenames you're using don't contain any of the following special characters(like # % $)

You said currently the data source files exceeds 700 counts and can’t succeed to refresh any more, I guess that the issue is linked to the numbers of your data source files. However, I can not find a Microsoft document to tell the limitations of Power BI connecting to SharePoint Folder.

Maybe you can find if it’s possible to reduce the amount of your data source files. If this is not possible, I suggest you to mark this reply as a solution and create a support ticket to get more effective help through phone and screen sharing, you can refer to this link:

Hi, @nayankunjir1410

Here are some methods you can try and find if they can help you solve your problem:

  1. Go to the data source credential of this dataset and update your credential to avoid credential problems.
  2. If the data refresh still fails, you can download the report which is linked to the dataset as pbix file and open it on Power BI desktop, then click Refresh in desktop to see which detailed error message display.
  3. Then try to solve the problem according to the error message. If you still have a problem, please show us your connection method to SharePoint online(web connector or SharePoint list or service). Have you done some data transform operation in power query(merge, append queries)

Here are some issues similar to your problem, you can check if it’s useful:

when i try to refresh the data from desktop,it works completely fine(without any error message). Here i am using sharepoint folder as connection method.

After selecting sharepoint folder connection method,i am giving sharepoint url here :

after this, I am filtering folder from the list of folder using filter option and then performing some power query operations i.e append, changing data type and splitting some data into different columns

Hi, @nayankunjir1410

You can go to the setting->dataset, and show more information of these three parts:

You can also go to the “Refresh history” to show more detial of the refresh failed information, like this:

Hi, @nayankunjir1410

Here are some possible causes of this kind of issue, you can take a look and check first:

  1. What is the total time spent refreshing your dataset in Power BI Service? If it’s over one hour, your AAD OAuth token will expire and the data refreshing process can fail with a credentials error.
  2. You should also make sure Power BI can sign into data sources. Try signing into your data sources in Data Source Credentials. Sometimes the password you use to sign into a data source changes or Power BI gets signed out from a data source.

You can refer to these links to find more information:

If you still have a problem, would you like to share some detailed information about the data source and configuration so that we can locate the problem more accurately?

Time spent refreshing dataset in Power BI Service is in between 20-30mins.
Can i get details about what additional information is required about the data source and configuration?
