Data Source Credentials Password Change

I have a semantic model on the power bi service that has three data source connections.  I've entered my credentials for all three via OAuth and have successfully connected.  This is all done through a Personal Cloud Connection.

Now say in 3 months when my company requires me to update my password what happens to this semantic model?  Is model not going to refresh because I changed my password or will it work fine since I authenticated via OAuth and didn't hard code my password?

In my experience, you will need to re-authenticate the credentials used in the shared cloud connection.

Hi @MyNameHere2213,

Thanks for reaching out to the Microsoft fabric community forum.

When your company enforces a password change, any existing OAuth tokens linked to your old credentials will become invalid. This means the Power BI Service won’t be able to refresh your semantic model using those connections until you reauthenticate as suggested by others. Once your password changes, please go to the dataset’s settings in the Power BI Service, open the “Data source credentials” section for each of your three connections, and sign in again with your updated credentials. Doing this will restore the connection and allow scheduled or manual refreshes to work as expected.

I would also take a moment to thank @FBergamaschi, @Tutu_in_YYC and @blopez11, for actively participating in the community forum and for the solutions you’ve been sharing in the community forum. Your contributions make a real difference.

If I misunderstand your needs or you still have problems on it, please feel free to let us know.

Best Regards,
Hammad.

Hello Hammad,

Since I have many data sets (50+) and is any there method that allow me to reauthenticate for all the data sets at the same time when my windows password is changed, instead of doing it one by one? Thank you.

You will have to reauthenticate once passwords change or the refresh will fail

If this helped, please consider giving kudos and mark as a solution

Based on my experience, the refresh will fail. As it will not be able to request access token using the old password.
