Data Source Credentials Managed Separately to Desktop File?

Hi,

I have a query about the management of credentials. I am managing my dataset and report via a Power BI Desktop file which is connected to an Azure DB imported via OneDrive for business in the Power BI Service.

My question is, if I update the credentials in the Power BI Service, then make a change to the file and upload again via OneDrive to refresh, will the credentials revert to those in the Power BI desktop file or will they remain to those I changed in the Service?

The use case is, I want to maintain a single Dataset in Power BI Desktop, change the credentials in the service to return only a subset of the data using row-based security in a number of different groups.
