Credentials for Semantic Model Refresh

Hi,

I was trying to refresh the Semantic model that connects to sharepoint folder, when it says

Something went wrong

There was an error when processing the data in the dataset.

This is the detail:

Data source error: The credentials provided for the SharePoint source are invalid. (Source at https://netorg5144927.sharepoint.com/sites/OpsDashboard.). The exception was raised by the IDbCommand interface.
Cluster URI: WABI-CANADA-CENTRAL-B-PRIMARY-redirect.analysis.windows.net
Activity ID: 94c670c1-b5f7-40a7-b91e-6e54d99a7c60
Request ID: 294e6abc-2e6e-d9b0-07a9-b2d528972ee5
Time: 2025-03-04 00:32:14Z

So i have been refreshing the model for many months, and this happened once. I fiexed it by going to 'Data source credentials' and 'Edit credentials' by signing in. but this time, it wont let me sign in. (Failed to update data source credentials: The credentials provided for the SharePoint source are invalid. (Source at https://netorg5144927.sharepoint.com/sites/OpsDash......))

This is really weird, because when I go to PBI file and check the data source, it can go through.

Please help

So i figured it out, the tech team changed the domain of sharepoint, that's why i cant connect to sharepoint. so to correct it. i went to power bi desktop, Home - Transform data, and change the link of dataset Source one by one

HI @Teemo ,

Is there a chance that the password that the Data Source on the service is using has expired/changed.  Perhaps it was changed on the Desktop but not in the Data Source?  Passwords or network/firewall changes tend to be the issue when you have something that works for a long time and then just starts to fail.  So, if it is not the password, perhaps see if the network or firewall was modified?

Hi, just to tap in... If that is the case how do we change the password at the Data Source?

I'm having the same issue however, my data source is coming from different department. I can't set auto refresh as I would like. However, if I refresh it manually, no issue.

Thank you

Hi collinq,

You remind me that my org did make some changes 2-3 weeks ago, they migrated the email services from another platform to Microsoft management. I had to reset my password and everything which was 2-3 weeks ago. But 1 week ago the refresh was fine (i refresh the model weekly). Do you think it is still the problem of password changes? Could you please tell me how to check 'the password that the Data Source on the service is using has expired/changed'?

Thank you
