Hello,
I changed my report's data connection method from direct query to live link. Unfortunately when I publish this to service it is displaying as a seperate report instead of overwriting the original report. This means the sharing link url will have changed. Is there anyway I can use my existing sharing link url (correctly points to the direct query version) for the live link version? (or successfully overwrite the live link file over the direct query file)
(the sharing link is used by hundreds of people so it will cause a lot of disruption to change it)
Many thanks for your help,
PW

Not easily. It is usually a one way street from Live to Direct Query to Import Mode. You would have to patch the PBIX or PBIP file(s).
Sometimes you can cheat by renaming your new PBIX version to exactly the same name as the original version and then either publishing the PBIX or uploading it from the service. Sometimes. You might get an error message, or you might still get a different GUID.
Prepare your plan B - Management of Change to inform your report users about the URL change.

Thank you @lbendlin . When I changed from import to direct query it was ok. Then when I changed from direct query to live connection I had the problem. So I think I will revert to direct query as that was allowing the file to overwrite / the sharing link to stay the same. It's just annoying there are extra semantic models in the workspace, and there is the risk of developers adding calculated columns/measures to the thin files.
