We have a semantic model and when hit cancel it took over 5 hrs to cancel as it just timing out after 5 hrs since in premium capacity and not truly cancelling.
Tried uisng the cancel button and the api.
Anyone seen similar before.
Also next attepted refresh didn;t even register in database - team had to create new semantoic model.
Previously was o.k. - reecntly added direct queryy to impport mode report but was fine.
How can we immedaitely cancel a power bi semantic model refresh in service - tried the button press and the api cancel but both seemed not to work just says canceling for hours.

That is working "as designed". Your cancel request can come in too late in the proces, and may no longer be picked up or considered by the service.
To immediately cancel a semantic model refresh move its workspace away from Premium. You will still incur CU cost, of course.

Sounds like a bug to me - design shoudl be if hot cancel it cancels immediatley rather than it waits entore 5 hours of premium timeout.
Call it a bug or call it a bad design. Fact is that cancellation requests are not interrupts. They are put into a queue and may or may not be looked at in time.
