Backup Workspace

I am looking for some advise on what others use to backup a PowerBi Workspace in the cloud.

Hi. You can backup in two ways. It depends on the license:

- Premium capacity, premium per user or any diamond: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RbMFQNthlGM

- Pro license: using power bi rest api to export report: https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/rest/api/power-bi/reports/export-report-in-group

In my opinion there is no need for backup if you prevent it. How? make sure you control version de power bi solutions. If you have all the developments in sharepoint or git, you probably already have all the versions backed up.

I hope that helps

Hi @CEllis ,

@ibarrau  provided a good solution, here are some suggestions, I hope it will be helpful to you.

1. If you are a power bi administrator in your organization, you can refer to this solution: SSolved: Backing up a workspace - Microsoft Fabric Community.

2. If you have a Power BI Premium or Premium Per User (PPU) license, you can use the backup and restore functionality for Power BI semantic models. The ability to back up and restore Power BI semantic models provides a migration path from Azure Analysis Services workloads to Power BI Premium. It also supports semantic model backup for a variety of reasons, including corruption or loss, data retention requirements, and tenant moves. The backup and restore feature uses existing connections between Power BI and Azure, such as the ability to register an Azure Data Lake Gen2 (ADLS Gen2) storage account at the tenant or workspace level to facilitate data streaming storage and operations. Since backup and restore use the same connection, no additional storage account is required. For information on how to use semantic model backup and restore, as well as related considerations and limitations, you can refer to the document: Backup and restore Power BI Premium semantic models - Power BI | Microsoft Learn.

If your Current Period does not refer to this, please clarify in a follow-up reply.

Best Regards,

Clara Gong
