Audiences in Org Apps

Hello,

I am looking into Org Apps and observed that it does not have an options to create audiences like we do in normal apps.

Is it a feature that they plan to release soon or something that will not be a part of org apps. If anyone has any idea, please let me know.

Thanks!

Hi @V_S27 ,
You're correct in observing that, unlike regular Power BI apps, Organizational Apps (Org Apps) currently do not support audience segmentation — the feature that allows you to define different views or access levels for various groups within a single app. As of now, this limitation is by design, and Microsoft has not officially announced a timeline for adding audience functionality to Org Apps. The Org Apps feature is still evolving, so it's possible that enhancements like audience support may be introduced in future updates. For now, if audience-level customization is critical to your use case, sticking with standard Power BI apps would be the best approach. Keep an eye on the Microsoft Power BI roadmap or the Fabric Community announcements for any upcoming changes.

Hi @V_S27 ,

Thank you for bringing up this question in Microsoft Fabric Community.

You're right that Org Apps in Microsoft Fabric do not currently support audiences like normal apps do. However, there’s an important distinction to note:

  • With workspace apps, you could only create one app per workspace and had to use audiences to manage different views or access levels within that single app.

  • With Org Apps, multiple app items can be created per workspace, allowing you to build separate apps for different audiences or needs, rather than using audiences to manage visibility within a single app.

So while audiences aren’t available in Org Apps, the ability to create multiple apps per workspace can serve a similar purpose, by providing tailored apps for different groups.

You can read more about this distinction in the official documentation:
Key ways that org app items are different from workspace apps (also known as Power BI apps)
