Admin Monitoring Workspace License

Dear colleagues,

We are starting to test the new Admin Monitoring workspace, and the models including on it. These are supposed to replace current View Usage metric dashboard

https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/fabric/admin/monitoring-workspace

My doubt is the following one: once created the workspace looks like follows

That is, the license assigned is PRO and can not be changed to Premium or Fabric Capacity even if you have one (as it our case)

Is this a bug? We want to build reports on top of the model and share the reports but I am not sure we can do it if the model remains on a PRO workspace......

Has someone built a report on top (placed on a Fabric workspace) of it and shared the report to other users without problems?

Thanks

Alfons

Hello,@lbendlin ,thanks for your concern about this issue.

Your answer is excellent!
And I would like to share some additional solutions below.
Hi,@alfBI .I am glad to help you.

Glad you are using Admin Monitoring workspace, it is a preview feature!
I have performed the following tests after understanding your requirements, and I hope it can help you

1. For your first question, why the license of Admin Monitoring workspace is Pro by default, and cannot be changed to other license types, such as PPU, Trial, Fabric and other levels.

The reason is that Power BI has set up the license in this way to ensure that these workspaces are able to use all the necessary features for effective monitoring and management. This design avoids feature limitations or management problems caused by inconsistent license levels.

This setup ensures the security of private data

At the same time, since the elements in the workspace have read-only permissions (report), there is little point in setting up other, more advanced license levels, as the functionality is greatly restricted and only the Pro level is required to manage the entire workspace.

2. For your second question, is it possible to use this monitoring data to create new reports?
This is possible, here is the test I did.

As you can see, you can't copy the members of this workspace directly to other common workspaces to make them available to other users.
1. But you can try to share the report in the form of a link to other users, when the user is a member of your organization and the link is shared, the user will be able to view the monitoring report and share the report to other users.

2. You can also try to invite other users in the organization to change the workspace, the system will automatically assign the viewer role, and can not be modified.

3. Although you cannot modify the contents of this workspace, you can create new reports using the semantic model in the Admin Monitoring workspace.
The newly created reports can be published to other general workspaces, so that other members of the organization can view the monitoring information.
like this.

I hope my suggestions give you good ideas, if you have any more questions, please clarify in a follow-up reply.

Not exactly. They are more Purview and Feature Adoption centric.
