Access Issues with data source

Hey, I am new to Power Bi and doing a Udemy course, I am required to connect to a csv file from my pc using file path and I need to enter my username and password for that connection. The issue is that after finally getting the username and password, it's showing:

"An exception occurred: Access to the path 'C:\Users\Ansh\Documents\Tajamul\Data_Analysis\Power_BI_Service\Power+BI+Service+Data+Files\Raw Source Data' is denied. (Session ID: 338437ba-3cbc-47c7-a78f-d5e39c4f4137, Region: india)"

Any idea how to fix this?Screenshot 2025-01-08 184104.png

1 ACCEPTED SOLUTION

Hi @1811raghuwanshi

  1. Run Power BI Desktop as Administrator: Right-click on Power BI Desktop icon > "Run as Administrator."
  2. Check File Path Length: Ensure the file path doesn’t exceed 260 characters. Try moving the file to a simpler path.
  3. Close Power BI: Ensure no file is locked by Power BI. Restart Power BI and try again.
  4. Check Folder Permissions: Make sure your user has full control of the entire folder path.
  5. Check UAC (User Account Control): Disable temporarily if it’s restricting file access.

These steps might resolve the issue. Let me know if you need further help!

Hi @1811raghuwanshi

The error is due to permission issues with accessing the file path. To fix it:

  1. Check Folder Permissions: Make sure your user account has read access to the folder.
  2. File Access: Ensure the file isn't open in another program.
  3. Run as Administrator: Try running Power BI as an administrator.
  4. Check for Special Characters: Remove special characters (+) from the file path.
  5. Antivirus Software: Temporarily disable antivirus to check if it's blocking access.

Try these steps to resolve the issue.

I did all that and still the same issue is arising. Removed the '+' from the folder name, checked that permissions were allowed for everything for the folder, no other program is running currently, I don't have an antivirus and how do I run Power BI service as Admin?
