Hello,
I am receiving the following error:
Data source error: | Information is needed in order to combine data. Please specify a privacy level for each data source.;Information about a data source is required.. The exception was raised by the IDbCommand interface. |
The report hits several end points in the same Rest API. I recently updated the call due to a domain name change. After that time, I am no longer able to automatically refresh the report in service but it is working fine in the desktop. Data Source Credentials in the service Authentication is set to Anonymous and Privacy Level set to None with skip test connection checked. The Data Source setting credentials in the desktop is set to Anonymous and Privacy Level None. Finally, in the desktop File -> Options -> Privacy Always Ignore Privacy Levels is checked. I have read many posts with conflicting solutions. Any help would be much appreciated.

Hi @KBIReports ,
The setting - 'ignore Privacy level' might not always work on Power BI service. Some new queries might be causing issues. Please check the below snapshot from link - https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/power-bi/enterprise/desktop-privacy-levels

So recommended:
1. Clear your permissions before starting
2.Select Current File -> Privacy -> Combine Data according to your privacy levels for each source.
3. Set privacy level as per the data sources and keep it consistent across each data sources
4. First try in desktop by setting the privacy level of datasources to organizational or public as applicable. It has to be consistent across all data sources. Try refreshing.
5. Ensure you maintain the same privacy level setting at Power BI Service -> Data Source Credentials- > Privacy Level Setting, Manage connections and Gateways
If this post helps, please accept this as a solution. Appreciate your kudos.
Thanks,
Pallavi
Hi @KBIReports,
Thanks for posting your query in Microsoft fabric community forum.
Based on the error message you provided, I identified that the issue stems from the privacy level settings of the data source configuration. To troubleshoot this, please follow the steps below to check for any inconsistencies in the "Privacy setting" configurations:
1. First, open the corresponding PBI desktop local file. Then, navigate to "Option and Settings-Options" to enable this option:
2. Navigate to "Data Source Settings" and ensure that the "Privacy setting" of all connected data sources are consistent:
3. Once consistency is confirmed, please proceed with a desktop data refresh to ensure successful completion.
4. Once the refresh is successful, please republish and attempt to reconfigure the data source definition for the related dataset. This will ensure that the "Privacy level" configured on the Service matches that of the Desktop.
If this helps then please Accept it as a solution and dropping a "Kudos" so other members can find it more easily.
Thank you.
