Hello,
I have built a Power BI report in Desktop that connects to a SQL Server instance hosted on AWS that is configured with Windows Authentication.
Once published to Service, I am unable to manually refresh the dataset, configure data source credentials (greyed out) or configure scheduled refresh and the gateway connection toggle is fixed to 'On'.
Before I engage IT to set up an enterprise gateway, can anyone let me know if a gateway is a requirement in this scenario and why? (In my simple brain, AWS is a cloud service and not on-prem so not sure why a gateway is needed?)
Is it something to do with windows authentication?
Kind regards,
Jake

Currently, Microsoft only supports most of the Microsoft Cloud Services natively in the service, as well as a few other cloud providers Unfortunately, when you are using SQL Server within AWS, you will need a gateway to successfully connect to your SQL Server.
